Once mold starts to grow in your home, it’s crucial to remove it as quickly as possible. Without proper mold remediation, mold can do serious damage to a house and even cause health problems for its residents. Here’s how you can get rid of mold in your home.

The first step in mold remediation is to eliminate the moisture issue that caused the mold in the first place. Repair any leaks in your pipes, remove any clogs from your rain gutters, and install exhaust fans in rooms that gather moisture, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.

Before you get to work, be sure to put on the proper safety equipment, including rubber gloves, a mask, and goggles.

Then, remove mold from any surfaces inside your home. You can use a store-bought detergent or make your own using white vinegar or diluted bleach or ammonia. Just be careful working with any harsh chemicals, and never mix ammonia with bleach or any other cleaning products.

To remove mold from the exterior of your home, apply a 1:10 solution of bleach and water or a TSP solution, and rinse the area with a hose or pressure washer.

Finally, dispose of any rags used to clean and wash the clothes you are wearing in a separate load of laundry.
