Here in the United States (as well as in many other places all around the world), lighting is hugely important and is a modern convenience of our every day life that our world would feel very empty without. From streetlights to the lights that we use in our homes to the lights from our screens (like from smart phones and laptops and televisions), lighting makes up more than twenty two percent of the energy use in the entirety of the United States. In the typical American home, lighting will typically make up more than ten percent of all the energy that is used. In commercial buildings like stores, the percentage is even higher, with lighting making up more than fifteen percent (eighteen percent, to be more exact) of all energy use used in the building. In some places, such as most parking garages, the lights are never turned off, as is mandated by the law in many places all around the country.

But here in the United States, the push for greater levels of energy efficiency is growing. Not only is energy usage expensive both to the country as a whole as well as to the individual person living in the country, but it’s expensive to businesses as well. On top of this, too much energy usage is bad for our planet, and in this day and age we must strive to be as environmentally friendly as possible. But if we need lights on at many point all throughout the day, how can we be more environmentally friendly?

The solution lies in the use of mogul based LED lighting. Mogul based LED lighting is ideal for a number of reasons. For one, mogul based LED lights are hugely energy efficient, saving money and meeting the criteria for being kind to our planet. Data backs this up quite a bit, showing that the use of mogul based LED lighting for everything from roadway lighting to parking garage lighting to lighting in the individual family home can reduce energy usage all throughout the country by as much as fifty percent, a considerable amount by any means. In fact, the typical mogul based LED light will only expend around fifteen percent of the energy that the standard halogen bulb will. And the mogul based LED lighting solution even works better than the traditionally used halogen bulbs, expending up to eighty five percent more light than a typical light bulb that is not an LED light bulb.

And if mogul based LED lighting is not an option for whatever reason, induction lighting presents yet another solution and way to save money and energy on lighting here in the United States. In fact, induction lighting can have a lifespan of up to one hundred thousand hours before finally burning out. This is directly related to the fact that induction light bulbs don’t have electrodes and because they also do not have filaments, two components that do not lead to any particular longevity when it comes to light bulbs. In comparison, the typical mogul based LED light bulb will last, in approximation, for around fifty thousand hours. While this is significantly less than that life span of an induction lighting system, it’s still far better than the life span of the traditional halogen light bulb, which will only last for a total of twenty thousand hours before burning out.

There are many reasons that lighting is important in the United States and in many other places all around the world at that. For instance, we use lighting to read by and cook by during the dark winter months. We use lighting every time we use our phones. We use lighting to navigate the streets after dark. On top of all of these, there are even so many more uses for lighting that we do not even consciously think about but merely do and use. Lighting is important, there’s no doubt about it, and switching to more energy conscious forms of lighting can have a profound effect here in the United States.
